How to Maintain Your HVAC System

February 1, 2020gofftxBlog

An HVAC system is an investment that will keep your family comfortable all year round. Here are 3 tips to keep it running efficiently for years to come!

Replace Your Filter

An easy task with huge benefits for your HVAC system is to replace your filters at least every 3 months because a dirty filter increases energy costs and can damage your equipment. Other factors that may affect how often you replace your filter are allergies, pets, and filter size. Switching to a high-efficiency HVAC system and regularly changing its filters can save you as much as 20-50% on your energy bills.

Conduct a Visual Inspection

Mold or pollutants around your air vents and a musty odor are signs that your HVAC system might not be working properly. Cleaning your vents and registers annually will help them to circulate air efficiently.

Remember to clear the space around the outdoor portion of your unit as well! Trim back the vegetation from your unit so it has at least 2 feet of clearance on all sides for proper air flow and circulation. Watch out for trees, such as the Cottonwood tree, that are notorious for clogging up units with their pollen.

Invest in a Preventative Maintenance Program

At Goff Heating/Air Conditioning & Plumbing, we can save you money with our Preventative Maintenance Program! This program entitles you to a 10% discount on all repair service and materials, priority emergency service, no labor overtime charges, as well as many other membership perks.

Routine maintenance can help prevent an issue before it occurs, and on top of that, it will lower your utility costs and reduce the possibility of needing equipment replacements. An HVAC technician should perform preventative maintenance twice a year including flushing coils, checking the drain pan and drainage system, vacuuming the blower compartments, looking at the voltage, checking refrigerant levels, evaluating furnace operation, and checking motor voltage as well as loose wires.

Servicing your air conditioning unit in the spring and your furnace in the fall will ensure that these systems are ready to fully function during the seasons when you need them most!

Keep your HVAC system in tip-top shape with the help of our expert team! Give us a call today at (903) 838-6923 or visit us online and book your inspection.
